Riya's father passed away in 2019. She found: (1) old LIC policy papers -- Rs 8L maturity pending. (2) HDFC FD passbook -- Rs 3.2L. (3) Old mutual fund statement -- Rs 1.5L folio. She searched udgam.rbi.org.in and AMFI portal. Found all three. Submitted death certificate + succession certificate for each. Total recovered: Rs 12.7L in 4 months. If she had not searched: money would have gone to unclaimed funds within years.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find unclaimed EPF money?
Log into EPF member portal (unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in) with UAN. Check all linked PF accounts. For old employers where UAN was not linked: contact old employer's HR for PF account number. You can request transfer of old PF accounts to current UAN via the portal. EPFO also runs SMS campaigns for unclaimed balances.
